Mission Statement
Our mission as a theater company is to inspire, nurture, challenge, educate, and empower artists and audiences in St. Louis to achieve the highest level of cultural excellence while providing unparalleled entertainment. To set ourselves apart from other theatres in the area, each season will focus on the voice of one playwright.
Aesthetic Statement
We recognize theatre as a tool of entertainment but also recognize the power of theatre to promote societal and personal change by educating and emotionally connecting to audiences. We will instill in all people a respect and appreciation for this art form by communicating at the highest level of excellence and drawing on the strength of the cultural diversity of our community. We will explore the relationship between performance and audience giving all the chance to learn something about themselves and providing a platform to grow as a society. MWTC is most interested in theatre that explores contemporary issues in modern and historical works and will continue to legitimize itself as a vital artistic tool.
Commitment
We have committed ourselves to educate audiences and artists, to appreciate the assets that theatre has to offer, and to foster the voices of innovative, imaginative, contemporary, diverse playwrights while respecting the roots of its history. MWTC provides a base for professional performers, writers, technicians, and other artists for performance opportunities, education, and outreach opportunities. We plan to achieve the above stated goals by producing three shows each season, providing classes to both children and adults in the community, and establishing an outreach program to families without the socioeconomic resources to pursue theatre education. We are in the process of working with an investor to acquire our own theatre space. We have been incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the state of Missouri and received our 501 (c) 3 status. MWTC sees this art form as an opportunity to give something back to the community and the society we live in, to provide educational opportunities with the skills we have as artists and professionals, and to provide an opportunity for the aggrandizement of all.
